Hi friend,

We offer all NBSS students the option to purchase an MBTA pass at an 11% discount. The Fall pass is usable from January 1 to May 31, 2026. See below for more info on types of passes and how to determine your pass type.
Order Form Due Date: Monday, December 1, 2025

How to Order
  1. Fill out the Spring 2026 T-pass order form, which includes price and payment info. (Spring passes include 5 months vs. 4 months for Fall, which is why the price is higher.)

  2. Return the form:
    1. Scan and email it to business@nbss.edu
    2. Drop it off at the front desk (include a check if that's how you're paying)
    3. Print and mail it (include a check if that's how you're paying) to attn: Business Office, 150 North Street, Boston, MA 02109

  3. Pay by check with your printed form, or through our online payment portal. If you pay online, we also need you to submit the order form so we know your pass details.

Months Included: January, February, March, April, May

We will let you know when T passes are ready for pick up at the front desk.

Note: The MBTA also offers an income-eligible reduced fare program to riders aged 18-64 enrolled in an approved state assistance program. Rates are about 50% off. Visit the MBTA website for instructions on how to apply for that pass.

Types of Passes

MBTA Semester T-Pass Program

Most students order the MBTA’s Link Pass or Zone 1A Pass. They cover almost the exact same service area of the transit system, but they function somewhat differently:

Link Pass: The Link Pass allows for unlimited service on subway (red, green, orange, silver line etc.) and local bus. It does not allow for any Commuter Rail services. Link Passes are valid during the entire semester (September-December or January-May), so you will receive only one physical card for use at the start of the semester. If that card is lost or stolen, it can be replaced, typically within one week.

Zone 1A Pass: The Zone 1A Pass allows for unlimited service on subway (red, green, orange, silver line etc.) and local bus (the same as a Link Pass as mentioned above) as well as Commuter Rail service in Zone 1A. Zone 1A refers to the Commuter Rail system’s core zone centralized in Boston. A Zone 1A pass is valid for only the specific month for which it is issued. You would need to pick up a different physical card each month from the NBSS Receptionist. The Zone 1A pass cannot be replaced if lost or stolen; you would need to wait until the next month for a new pass to become available. The MBTA does not issue refunds under any circumstances.

For those students living further outside of Boston, additional zone options for the Commuter Rail are available.

MBTA Maps and How to Figure Out Your Zone

  • Use the MBTA Trip Planner to find your route options from home to school. The route suggestions will show which type of Monthly Pass you'll need.
  • Find MBTA Maps here, including Subway and key bus routes, Commuter Rail, and Commuter Rail zones.

Contact Marcia Michelson at mmichelson@nbss.edu or the Front Desk for specific questions on this process.
